Miho Museum Bridge Awarded International Structural Engineering Prize
		A ceremony was held at Miho Museum to commemorate the presentation of the memorial plaque for the 2002 Outstanding Structure Award presented to Miho Museum by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE, head office in Zurich, Switzerland) on November 2, 2002. Those present at the ceremony included Miho Museum chairperson Hiroko Koyama, architect I. M. Pei (pictured on the right), and structural engineer Leslie Robertson (on the far left).
International Conference for the 5th Anniversary of the Opening of Miho Museum The Age of Interdependence: Toward a World Community of Museums
On November 4, 2002, museum directors and cultural ministers from eight countries worldwide assembled at Miho Museum to explore ways in which museums can cooperate across national borders, under the conference title, The Age of Interdependence: Toward a World Community of Museums. Sayed Makhdoom Raheen, Minister of Information and Culture of Afghanistan; Zhang Wenbin, Secretary General of the Society of Chinese Museums; Mamdouh Mohammed Eldamaty, Director General of the Egyptian Museum; and Hiromitsu Washizaka, Director of Japan’s Nara National Museum, were among the panelists at this conference.
The panelists spoke about conditions in their respective countries and museums. International cooperation among museums not only on the level of research, exhibitions, administration, and conservation, but also in terms of diplomacy, politics, and mutual understanding were acknowledged as necessary.

500,000th Visitor

・Miho Museum Welcomed its 500,000th Visitor
On Sunday, October 6, 2002, Miho Museum welcomed its 500,000th visitor, Mayumi Yoshioka from Yamaguchi Prefecture. Ms. Yoshioka was presented with a bouquet of flowers upon her entry for being part of Miho Museum’s milestone.
・Planting More Cherry Trees
Miho Museum has extended the area, in which the weeping cherry tree line the road leading to the museum. Several weeping cherry and mountain cherry trees have also been planted in this area.	Pathway with weeping cherry tree
・The Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award at the 54th Japan Calendar Exhibition
Each year, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology presents an award to an outstanding photographer, whose work represents the spirit of the given year. Design and educational function are highly ranked among the entries. Miho Museum’s 2003 Calendar, commemorating its 5th anniversary, recently received this award at the 54th Japan Calendar Exhibition.
