Woman Applying Makeup Tri-color glazed pottery Tang dynasty Height 47.7 cm National Museum of Shaanxi History This youthful figurine with knees bent and hips lowered as if seated is thought to have originally held a mirror in her left hand and appears to be applying cosmetics with her right. She may have been modeled after the lady in whose tomb she was found. Her delicate features and the decorative tri-colored glaze of her dress indicate that she is an outstanding early 8th-century work. |
