The Opening of
the Shin-Meishin Shigaraki Interchange
The Shin-Meishin Expressway, which directly connects Shiga Prefecture’s Kusatsu Tanakami Interchange at Meishin Expressway to Mie Prefecture’s Kameyama Junction at Higashi Meihan Expressway, finally opened on February 23, 2008. This new expressway makes MIHO MUSEUM and the pottery town of Shigaraki more accessible. MIHO MUSEUM is now only about fifteen minutes away from the Shigaraki Interchange. MIHO MUSEUM awarded Three Michelin Stars
The French tire manufacturer Michelin has long produced guides that ranks restaurants, and their highest ranking of three stars is internationally well known. Recently, they have started to publish a guidebook filled with famous spots for each country. Last year, a guide on Japan in French was published and MIHO MUSEUM was selected as one of fifty-one visitors’ spots that were awarded three stars!

A Brief Report on MIHO MUSEUM’s 10th Anniversary
International Symposium and Concert
Integrating Beauty, Nature and Spirituality into Life in the New Millennium
on November 5, 2007 at Biwako Hall
In harmonizing nature, architecture, and art, the MIHO MUSEUM’s ideal is to symbiotically bring together the cultural exchanges between East and West and the unique cultures of people living in different periods of history and regions. Since the opening of the museum, we have worked towards realizing this vision in all our events, including exhibitions, lectures, and concerts.

In line with this vision, food is also art. Our restaurant and café offer healthy and delicious dishes using fertilizer and pesticide-free organic ingredients. Finally, the embodiment of all these ideals can be seen in the MIHO MUSEUM, the realization of I.M. Pei’s utopia. Last year, we celebrated the tenth year of the museum.

Over these years, more than a million visitors have come to our museum. Among these visitors, we were especially pleased to have welcomed several panelists whose ideas resonate with those of the MIHO MUSEUM. To commemorate the tenth anniversary, an international symposium, Integrating Beauty, Nature and Spirituality into Life in the New Millennium, and a concert were on November 5 of last year. The panelists spoke about their each experiences and impressions of the museum and about their inspirational way of life.
