Shigaraki Art Festival

Period: Friday, October 1st through Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010(for 54 days)
Venue: Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, Miho Museum, Traditional Crafts Center Shigaraki, and Pottery Walking Trail.

*Free parking is available for Festival attendees.
Admission fees are required for entrance to the Exhibition Hall at the Shigaraki Ceramics Cultural Park and the Miho Museum. Archeological attractions of ‘Shigaraki-No-Miya’:
The unfinished ancient palace

‘Shigarki-No-Miya’ is one of Japan’s most famous archeological destinations. Displays that can be seen along the walk through the excavated site reveal the origin of mystical local history. A walking tourand local produce sales are also planned.

Shigaraki Ceramics Exhibition
			
This exhibition is a good example of a ‘living history museum,’ which develops along the trail, through local kilns and art studios with special masterpieces on display. A caravan show featuring new works by front-running young artists will be exhibited along the trail. Renovated construction also adds to the beauty of the town.

Introduction of traditional tea brand,
‘Asamiya-cha’

‘Asamiya-cha,’ is ranked among the top five Japanese tea. Traditional Shigaraki stoneware will be used to showcase the Japanese Tea Ceremony. A free serving of Asamiya-cha will be handed out at the exhibition, for tasting and panel presentation of the tea production process.
Life Ceramics Exhibition
Venue: The Shigaraki Ceramics Cultural Park,
           The Traditional Crafts Center, Shigaraki
           
This exhibition pursues ‘Comfort in life’. Prominent modern designers come together to propose ideas for a new style living space by demonstrating their own creations. Their completed artworks will join other works. Other events such as a symposium and a student competition will parallel the exhibition.
