Special 15th Anniversary of MIHO MUSEUM MIHO GRANDAMAⅡ To the Honored Mother
How were we created from a primordial Earth? At the core of most ancient civilizations exists an image of a great mother who gave birth to all life, a goddess who protects and nurtures us. The various images of the Mother include ancient goddesses, who mesmerized people with their beauty and mystique some 4000 years ago, in the distant past of Western Central Asia, as well as female deities of Heian-period (794–1185) Japan who exuded dignity and nobility.
This special exhibition brings together out-standing works in which the feminine divine dwells. Along with the message of MIHO MUSEUM’s founder Mihoko Koyama (1910–2003), MIHO GRANDAMAⅡ aims to deepen the image of the beautiful and sacred mothers who we feel at the innermost depths of our hearts.
