Awards Received by
the Miho Museum

November marks the second anniversary of Miho Museum. Over the past two years, the museum has been awarded a wide variety of prizes. Here is a list of these honors.

ARCHITECTURE AND GENERAL DESIGN:

Ten Best

    The Miho Museum was named one of the Ten Best Designs of 1997 by Time Magazine.

 

HIROBA Architectural Award

    This prize is given by Kinki Federation of Architect & Building Engineers, which consists of architects from Osaka, Hyogo, Shiga, Kyoto, Nara, and Wakayama Prefecture. The architect, planner, and builder were commended in a comprehensive evaluation that considered the architecture, building site, and surrounding environment, the planning and building, the use of space as an aesthetic experience, and the architectural concept and its realization. Recipients of the HIROBA Architectural Award are selected from 113 nominations that appeared in Hiroba magazine in 1997. October 1, 1998


LIGHTING DESIGN:

Award of Excellence, 15th IALD Lighting
Design Competition
    International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), an organization of architec-tural lighting designers that has 550 members, organizes this competition. The Lighting Design Prize honors exceptionally beautiful lighting design that employs a specialized technique or represents a noteworthy integration of lighting and architectural design. This year 87 lighting projects from North America, Europe, Asia, and South America were named as candidates. Of these, the Miho Museum received the Most Outstanding Prize.

Good Lighting Design Award
    The Museum was awarded for outstanding lighting in a facility by Illumination Promoting Association, Japan.

Gold Medal, New York Festival
      The New York Festival recognizes works that have deeply touched viewers throughout the world. A video documen-tary about the Miho Museum won in the Advertising/Other Category.

1999 Gold Muse Award  
      The Miho Museum won the Gold Medal in the "Museum Profile" category of the American Association of Museums' (AAM) annual Media & Technology competition, titled The Muse Awards. There were seven categories: films or videos about Art, Science, History/Cultural Studies, Public Service Announcements, and Museum Profiles (the category "The Museum on the Mountain" won for) ; also Interactive Media and Web Sites.

CINE Golden Eagle 1998  
      CINE is a nonprofit organization that recognizes excellence in documentary, instructional, informational, and short feature films, videos, and interactive productions and facilitates their entry in international film and video festivals. Its prestigious Golden Eagles are awarded in recognition of content and production excellence in professionally produced works.
