Special Autumn Exhibition
The World of Shirasu Masako
Special Lecture Series
During the special Autumn exhibition, a special lecture on Shirasu Masako will be given in the South Lecture Hall at the Miho Museum. This lecture will be moderated by Aoyagi Keisuke, a scholar of Japanese literature, and will be presented in a dialogue format between Aoyagi and a special guest. Admission is limited to the first 150 visitors. This events are free, however, admission to the museum is required.

“Oiki-no-hana”Shirasu Masako and Tomoeda Kikuo (Noh player)
Performing in Noh dramas as a child, Shirasu Masako was the first woman to perform in this traditional Japanese art form. In Shirasu's later years, Tomoeda was one of her greatest admirers. Previously broadcast on NHK, Tomoeda's documentary will be shown on video in the exhibition room.

Travelogue: “Visiting Remote Villages”(special version)
In 1969 Shirasu's writings began to be published in Geijutsu Shincho magazine and her name became familiar to the general public. In this series, called “Remote Villages, ”she recorded her visits to Aburahi Shrine, Rakuya-ji Temple and, and by focusing on the Omi area, portrayed the special characteristics of Japanese culture. In Video titled “Remote Villages” the world of Shirasu Masako is translated to the screen as the viewer follows her down a road through a world of lost traditions. Released in the spring of 2000, this video has been specially edited for the Miho's exhibition.
