Delivered by Abbot Sōichi Tanabe of Shūon-an Ikkyū-ji Temple

Venue: The South Wing Lecture Hall
Free with entrance to the museum.
Zen Meditation Sessions
Times: 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. / 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Venue: The NPO Shumei Natural Agricultural Village in Shigaraki
Age level: From fourth graders up
Capacity: Up to 24 participants for each session (on a first-come, first-serve basis).

Sermon: Seeking the Way: The Heart that Transmits the Buddhist Law
Delivered by Rokuji (“Secretary”) Takuō Kobayashi of the Hossō Headquarter Yakushi-ji Temple
Time: 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Venue: The South Wing Lecture Hall
Free with entrance to museum.
Workshop: Making Dazzling Postcards
Let’s make beautiful cards using gold foil and gold paint.
Dates: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during summer exhibition season (except for July 21)
Time: 11:00 a.m. on / 1:00 p.m. on / 3:00 p.m. on (for approximately 30 minutes; same content each time)
Age level: First graders to adults
Register on the day of at the workshop venue.
Capacity: 10 participants per session (on a first-come, first-serve basis)
Participation fee: approximately 300 yen for material costs (separate museum entrance fee necessarily)
Docent Tours
Our educational volunteers offer forty-minute tours of our galleries (for adults).
*From the second to fifth Sunday during exhibitions, twice daily from 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
  (approximately 40 minutes).
*Meet at the entrance way of the Main Hall (capacity: 20 participants)
Our volunteers will guide visitors around the museum, starting with an explanation of the museum’s architecture.
The tour then goes through the Egyptian, West Asian, Greek, and Roman galleries, covering the historical background of ancient works and the feelings that the artists may have felt while producing them.
Tours include:
Floor Mosaic with Dionysus (Roman period, 3rd–4th c.)
Statue of Arsinoe II (Egypt, 3rd c. B.C.)
Falcon-headed Deity (Egypt, 13th B.C.)
Relief of Winged Genius and Royal Attendant
(Neo-Assyrian period, 9th c. B.C.)

*Additional tours of the permanent collection are conducted on an irregular basis. Please ask for details at the Main Hall entrance area.
